Spotlight on FCE Exam Booster

The Spotlight on FCE Exam Booster is designed as a supplement to the Student’s Book by the same name, and is really good. Like the Student’s Book, it is well set out- but I actually found it much easier to navigate. It is jam-packed with useful exercises.

As with the Student’s Book it begins with a detailed overview of the FCE exam. Each test section is explained in a very easy to read format, listing relevant pages for practicing each section, which is extremely useful. It consists of the same 16 unit topics as the Student’s Book. The topics of these are up-to-date and interesting, making it more motivating for users. Each unit has a Language Checklist, as well as an Exam Checklist. It also contains a full Practice Test with answer key.

One good point with this book is that it is great value for money. Not only is it useful, but it also comes with 2 Audio CDs and a DVD. This makes it more appealing to students as they don’t need to purchase them separately (which can get costly) and they can listen to the CDs anywhere they want. There is also an easy to use Audio Track Listing for each CD inside the back cover, which was appealing to me as I hate it when the Track list is on a smaller paper located inside the CD packet. Nothing worse than having to pull it out every time you need to use the CD!

The one aspect which some may find unappealing is that it is black and white, making it perhaps less attractive than the colorful Student’s Book. I found this welcoming, however, as it was less distracting and easier to focus on the activities rather than the pictures and colours. I definitely recommend the Exam Booster- thumbs up!
